BLOG UPDATE

Picture
Since the beginning of the third marking period, all chemistry classes have been using schoology for their blog and updates.   This can be found clicking here at www.schoology.com and all students have registered with their respective classes.

Schoology is an awesome tool for us to use at it greatly improves communication.  It also has a friendly feel to it and allows for posting of discussions, quizzes, writing assignments and other aids to the learning process.

If you as a parent want to monitor your student's progress and work schedule, please e-mail me at paiello@stmaryhs.org and I'll send you the access code for your child's schoology account.

DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THE CHRISTMAS CHEMISTRY PROJECT.  IT WILL BE GIVEN OUT IN CLASS ON MONDAY DECEMBER 19th and DUE ON JANUARY 3, 2012.

SCIENCE & WRITING........

As I've mentioned throughout the year, the ability to think critically is
important if one is going to have success educationally today.  We rely so much
on technology to do our thinking that we sometimes forget we can actually figure
things out for ourselves.  In this respect, writing is no different.  From
texting, instant messenging to shorthand abreviations, our grammatical skills
are sadly eroding.

We have a nice little project that I've  just assigned.  It's doing a little 'research' by looking through newspapers,  magazines, and other assorted media to find science related articles that we'll be doing essays on.  I've already given the first assignment.  You can download  the following link to see how the projects will be graded.  Your child should  save this rubrix as it will be used in all of his/her writing assignments  throughout the school.

Take a look at it and let me know if you have any questions.  You can always e-mail me at
paiello@stmaryhs.org

2nd MARKING PERIOD UPDATE

Picture
In my humble opinion, the second marking period is the most difficult to manage.  Due to Thanksgiving and Christmas Break, we lose our normal flow of class and it's sometimes easy to let things get behind.  We're already into the third week of the marking period.  We just had our first exam and we're looking to have three more exams this marking period (Two in December (the 7th and the 21st)) and one in January.

So make sure you stay on top of your homework, labs and readings.  If during any of the breaks you have any questions, please e-mail me at paiello@stmaryhs.org  .    Don't let any question you may have go un-asked.  Thanks.
